Conference to be held in 2015
The Inaugural Light Rail Futures Conference has been postponed to 2015. It will still be held in Fremantle, Australia. An update will be supplied in January 2014.
On behalf Curtin University, we have great pleasure in inviting you to the Light Rail Futures: Rediscovering Light Rail’s Role in Cities in Fremantle (Perth), Western Australia
Curtin University’s Sustainability Policy Institute, led by Dr. Peter Newman, invites academics, engineers, architects, planners and others from around the world to present and discuss the latest advances in their research as well as important issues relevant to Light Rail transit role in City shaping. We aspire to embrace a broad cross section of the transport and land use planners to look to the future as well as build on the successes over the last past several decades of Light Rail systems planning, operations and outcomes. The Fremantle (Perth) Light Rail Futures 2015 Conference will be the first of the sort in Australia. It will be a great opportunity for Australians and the global community to contribute to the knowledge-base of the Perth Metro Region as it plans to construct a first line of Light Rail.
Light Rail Transit is being planned into the Perth Region, is being built on the Gold Coast, is operational in Melbourne and is being considered for several others cities in Australia. Now is an opportune time to openly discuss the global best practices and the hard learnt lessons from around the world in term of land use, route alignment, rolling stock, real estate, and funding opportunities. Discussions about what Light Rail transit can deliver in transport services will be placed into a context as commitment to civic redevelopment. As it is still early in the planning process for Perth, much of what will be presented will be of great importance to the decision makers, designers and purchasers of the next generation of Light Rail Transit. Valuable contributions will be made to this discussion by our two keynote speakers Prof Robert Cervero and Todd Litman.
It will also be a chance for Perth to showcase its very successful commuter heavy rail system and evaluate the Transit Oriented Developments undertaken.
